MMD IS WEAK ON CORRUPTION: ZAMBIANS NEED CHANGE

While many Zambians will point accusing fingers at Ndola High Registrar over FJT acquital. We must realise that FJT's free ride is not about the presiding magistrate but MMD government and its plans which has proven itself in this case that it is weak, soft and legally incompetent to prosecute corruption cases. We not blame for the magistrate for acquittal; but hold MMD accountable for failing to prove the case.

Zambians must respect the ruling of court but hold MMD government accountable in the manner it handled this case. MMD government has wasted taxpayer's money with this case which many top MMD officials knew it was a dead end. Zambians deserve to know who how much MMD government has spend on this case since it started. This is total wasteful spending by the government.

The big lesson for Zambians in this case is that MMD policies has once again proven itself to be weak, soft and incompete to fight corruption in Zambia. We deserve a change in goverment with a strong party whose agenda and policies will effectively fight corruption.

The choice before Zambians for 2011 elections are now more clear; continue with same weak government which has failed to fight corruption or bring in a new strong government that will fight corruption seriously?
Looking beyond the status quo in PF, leaders like Kabwata MP, Mr. Given Lubinda is someone who can deliver as Zambia ’s next Republican President. Given Lubinda will sweep the MMD from power and deliver Change for Zambians. He is electable at the national level and capable to command rule of law in Zambia . PF, be serious and present to Zambia , skilled and experienced leaders like Mr. Given Lubinda to stand for presidency.

  1. After surfing the Zambian blog sphere, I find your view unique – in that you are looking at a larger picture as we should. I totally agree with that position. Chiluba’s case has been a lame duck from its inception. Levy used it to consolidate his power. Not only that Pres Mwanawasa lacked a consensus on many issues, he was sometimes too combatant and in total sum achieved less that Chiluba – at least in terms of paradigm shifts. Frederick Chiluba did not only end up delivering multiparty democracy, but his economic liberalization policy changed the mentality – positively or negatively for good. Zambians became energized and learnt how to stand on their own feet. Survival instinct developed. All that is good. But to a simplistic mind, this is causing suffering and hence Chiluba is cursed.

People forget that the economic developments undertaken under Mwanawasa, succeeded because Chiluba had set up the foundation for it.

On the acquittal saga itself, some people are again pointing fingers at a wrong person – the Magistrate. Chinyama did what judges are supposed to do – deliver justice. ‘If it can’t fit acquit’ is the famous line in trying big cases. Chinyama just followed the law. If the evidence has been found to be wanting after such a big effort – why waste more money on it? Anytime it leaves room for the benefit of doubt, the case collapses plain and simple.

The judiciary system in this case has acted correctly. Only one wishes and hopes that it would follow the same suit in the case of Chansa Kabwela. One feels so after reading Prof Ndulo’s opinion in The Post – A Comedy of Errors. Basically the point is this: whenever the law is not clear or purposely crafted such that the defendant has a possibility to escape under the so-called ‘benefit of doubt clause’, it must be granted by judges and we must respect that.

Therefore, it is correct to point a finder at the weakness of MMD and not the judiciary, because it is the job of any competent government to ensure that ALL technical points or loopholes are plugged or amended. Strangely in the case of RB’ administration – government itself is taking advantage of these loopholes. This is an aberration.

Finally, I listened and talked to Given Lubinda when he was on the Blog Talk Radio. The guy can articulate issues. Yes, definitely he is a presidential material. But how is he going to get rid of Sata? He can if indeed he is serious – because all he has to do is push for democracy within PF. This would entail challenging Michael Sata at a Convention. If Lubinda can solve that problem, Zambians are malleable. He would be home and free. That would be his test.

In the open field, the only other potential presidential material would be Godfrey Miyanda. But that guy bright as he is doesn’t know how to organize or mobilize people. Ability to win people – i.e., to command a following, is part of the job because that is what separates effective leaders from chaffs. And so far as the record stands in terms of charisma and ability to organize – put UNIP era aside, it is Chiluba, Andy Mazoka, Sata, Mwanawasa and Tembo in that order. Late Dean Mung’omba like Miyanda, are intelligent but can’t pull masses. Leaders like Ben Mwila and Edith Nawakwi have failed lamentably to boost their respective parties.

Thus, instead of bickering over Chiluba’s case, we should concentrate our efforts in trying to recruit the best presidential candidate we can get, otherwise Zambia risks loosing direction. Over to you!

  2. Mr Mulenga, thanks for the comments..you make a good case why Zambia needs to new person to pull the masses into forming a government, so far we are stuck with RB and Sata who seem directionless about on Zambian's development.
